Rainier Gets Approval for Improvements

The News Tribune reports that two of six improvement projects at Mount Rainier have been approved.

Washington’s National Park Fund will split the $100,000 cost with the park for a solar project at the Ohanapecosh ranger station as part of a fire program.

Mount Rainier Associates will donate half of the $10,000 needed to install a drain and floor at the historic Indian Bar backcountry shelter. Snowmelt constantly makes a quagmire of the dirt floor.
Rejected requests included:
*Creating an accessible trail from the visitors center plaza to the Paradise Meadows trailhead
*Creation of a Mount Rainier-Mount Fuji Sister Mountain curriculum project and teacher exchange program.
