Baxter State Park Director Buzz Caverly plans to retire July 1 according to the Bangor News.
Caverly has spent 46 years at Baxter.
Jensen Bissel, director of the park’s Scientific Forestry Management Area, has been appointed interim director, and a nationwide search for a full-time replacement will likely continue through fall.
Caverly was famous for defending Percival Baxter’s vision for the park and there were jokes that Caverly “channeled” the ex-governor.
