Friends of the Smokies has won a $250,000 grant for rehabilitation work on the Clingmans Dome tower. Clingmans competed for the grant with other national parks in a competition sponsored by American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation and hosted by National Geographic from May 25 through July 5 in which online votes were made for which national park deserved the grant.
