Tallest Mountain East of the Rockies Debate

The Rapid City Journal has joined in on the “highest east of the Rockies” claim for Harney Peak. The article acknowledges that Guadalupe Peak at 8,749 feet is higher than 7,242-foot high Harney. It does note that the process that uplifted the Rockies also uplifted both those mountain. The Journal does note is Harney’s claim of “the highest point east of the Rocky Mountains and west of the Pyrenees Mountains of Europe” is technically correct if you consider it in a straight line.
