Cheaha temporarily closed on Feb. 17, 2014, to clean up debris from the ice storm that hit the mountain Feb. 13-14. The storm downed 1,000 trees, knocked off power and damaged cabins. Authorities said it was the worst damage to the park since Hurricane Opal in 1995. The park hopes to reopen in time for the February 22 Cheaha Ultramarathon.
