The Taum Sauk pumped electric station is now officially producing electricity. There are several connections in this case with Highpointers Club.
The plant is atop neighboring Church Mountain. Our Club Founder Jakk Longacre who lived on the approach to Taum Sauk had successfully joined the Missouri Sierra Club in opposing the expansion of another plant atop another neighboring mountain.
On December 14, 2005, the reservoir collapsed sending a flood down the mountain into Black River and washed away the Taum Sauk State Park Superintendent his wife and three children. They survived although suffering hypothermia. One of youngest was severely burned after for treatment for hypothermia. Troops was a friend of the Club helping us establish the Jakk Longacre Glade on Jakk’s old property on the approach to Taum Sauk.
