The following 40 peaks in the Southern Appalachians are on the current South Beyond 6000 list. If you climb these by an approved route, then you qualify for membership in South Beyond 6000, and will receive a patch and a certificate to recognize your accomplishment. The following peaks were removed in 1997 since they were considered sub peaks of other mountains:

Cattail Peak, 6583, Black Mountains Area
Clingman's Peak, Mt. Gibbes, 6560, Black Mountains Area
Mt. Hardison, 6134, Smokies Area

In 1997, the following changes were made:
Cattail Peak & Mt. Hardison were removed.
Tennent Mtn. and Mt. Hallback were added.

Clingman's Peak was replaced by Mt. Gibbes, since Clingman's Peak is fenced in, with No Trespassing allowed. Tri-corner Knob and Yonaguska were combined as Tri-corner Knob/Yonaguska because both have the same elevation and are close to each other. (These changes were made to make SB6K consistent with other programs criteria, like the New England 4000 program)
